Winfield Recreation Council
Honors Volunteers
of the Year for 2008!
Tim Smith (2nd from Right)
Tim Brown (Middle)
The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks hosted the
annual Volunteer of the Year reception on Wednesday, November 5,
2008 at the Robert Moton Center.
County Commissioners Julia Gouge and Michael Zimmer congratulated
Winfield Recreation Council 2008 recipients: Robert “Mr. Tim” Smith
and Tim Brown.
Robert “Mr. Tim” Smith was recognized for his involvement in
Winfield’s STARS travel softball program. For the last 10 years,
even though Tim’s daughters no longer participated in the Winfield
softball program, he was always willing and available to assist
coaches, players and parents. Whether helping with coaching duties,
assisting with “field days” or providing financial assistance with
fundraising, Tim was always there helping. Long after Tim’s
daughters graduated from their fastpitch softball playing days and
he was still coaching, a new girl’s parent asked, “Which one of the
girls is your daughter?” Tim’s reply, “They’re all my daughters.”
Mr. Tim treats everyone he comes into contact with dignity and
respect and never asks for or demands anything in return.
Tim Brown was recognized for his involvement in WRC basketball and
football programs over the course of the last seven years. In
football Tim served as equipment manager, area director, vice
president, and head coach. Tim has done all these things with
passion, dedication and integrity. As a coach, Tim teaches
fundamentals, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and that winning isn’t
the most important thing. He’s an asset to our recreation programs
and a wonderful role model.
John Gavin was also recognized but unable to
attend.
